I hope you are having a lovely summer and are allowing yourselves time to relax, enjoy nature or travel during this time of year!

I am incredibly grateful to have had a wonderful summer vacation in Europe with my family. Having quality, leisure + playful time with my kids, husband and a few of our closest friends was such a treat. We celebrated my husband’s 50th birthday in Tuscany, surrounded by some of our closest friends, and took in every moment with appreciation and gratitude. We then spent time with close family and friends in Serbia. Beautiful exchanges and acts of kindness, new connections, digital detox and more time in nature were all refreshing and inspiring. I came back to New York ready for my fast life+work pace and new projects!

To start, I am excited to share that I recently completed my integrative medicine fellowship program, and am writing the final exam at the end of the month! Wish me luck :)

I have also been hard at work setting up my integrative medicine practice. I will keep you posted on the progress of my health sanctuary in New York City…stay tuned.

Now let’s talk thyroid health:

My new article is about modifiable factors that can adversely affect your thyroid function and what you can do about this. This topic is important because your thyroid is essential to normal body function, and thyroid disease is common.

Hypothyroidism, a condition where the thyroid gland is underactive, affects approximately 10 million Americans and is more common in women than men (it has been estimated that 10% of women have some degree of thyroid hormone deficiency). This is alarming, given that a healthy thyroid is key to keeping your body’s metabolism operating at a healthy rate. When your thyroid is underactive, some of the main symptoms and signs you may experience include weight gain, fatigue, sluggishness, sensitivity to cold weather, constipation, slow heart rate, dry skin, hair thinning or loss, menstrual irregularities, infertility, depression and high cholesterol. There are intricate pathways and feedback mechanisms in place to make sure your thyroid hormone production and conversion are operating optimally. That being said, there are a number of factors that can throw your thyroid hormone balance off or increase the likelihood of your immune system attacking it (this is called Hashimoto’s thyroiditis).

In this article, I guide you through 9 key modifiable factors that can impact your thyroid function. Of course, if you have a thyroid condition, or are concerned that you may have symptoms of thyroid disease, see your qualified healthcare provider.

Wishing you a happy + healthy rest of the summer,
Dr. Bojana
